Housing supplement

Housing supplement is money you can receive if you have activity compensation or sickness compensation and have housing costs. You do not need to pay tax on the supplement.

Am I eligible for housing supplement?

You can receive housing supplement if you live in Sweden, have activity compensation or sickness compensation and pay enough for your accommodation in relation to your income. You can also receive housing supplement if you live in Sweden and are receiving some form of disability benefit from another EEA country or Switzerland.

If you are 66 years or older and are receiving a full old-age pension, you apply for housing supplement from the Swedish Pensions Agency.

To find out whether you are eligible for housing supplement, you can call us at 0771‑524 524. Before calling, please prepare information about your housing costs, your income and your savings. If you are married or have a live-in partner, we need this information for both of you.

How do I apply for housing supplement?

1. Prepare digital documents about your housing

You need to attach copies of documents about your housing when you apply for housing supplement.

If you rent your home, you must send in copies of

  • your lease

  • NE appendix to your income tax return if you are self-employed
  • payment notice or payslip showing all your current incomes
  • annual statement from the bank showing the balance of your accounts, funds, shares and endowment insurance on 31 December of the previous year.

You do not need to submit your payment notices from Försäkringskassan.

If you do not already have the documents as files on your computer, you can take photos of them with your phone or scan them. If you cannot add the appendices when you submit your application, you can attach them later. However, do so as soon as possible so we can start processing your case.

If you live in tenant-owned housing (bostadsrätt) or your own property, you must also send in copies of the following:

  • purchase agreement
  • loan documents stating the interest rate as a percentage, the current amount of debt and that the apartment/house is provided as collateral for the loan
