Compensation for costs from a personal injury

If you have costs for dental care or assistive devices due to a personal injury, you can receive compensation from Försäkringskassan.

Can I receive compensation?

You can receive compensation from the national personal injury protection if you were injured while

  • an inmate in a correctional facility or detention centre.
  • performing community service or youth service.
  • under care in accordance with the Care of Young Persons Act (LVU) or the Care of Abusers Act (LVM).

Can I receive compensation for dental care costs?

Yes, if

  • the treatment is necessary due to the injury.
  • the dentist is affiliated with Försäkringskassan.
  • you were injured or became sick during the protection period. The protection period is the time spanning when you begin travel to your service, detention centre, admission or treatment to when you complete your travel home.
  • If you meet all of these conditions, Försäkringskassan will go forward and investigate whether your injury or illness can be approved as a personal injury. If it is approved as a personal injury, you can receive compensation for dental care costs.

How do I apply?

1. Report the injury

  • Tell your supervisor or the like that you were injured or have become sick during the protection period. He/she must then report the injury to Försäkringskassan.
  • If the injury comes to light after the protection period, report the injury to Försäkringskassan yourself. Use form 9210 Registration of occupational injury or personal injury.
