Electricity support for 2026

The Swedish government has decided that Swedish households will receive electricity support (elstöd) based on their electricity consumption in January and February 2026. Försäkringskassan (Swedish Social Insurance Agency) administers the payments.

The person who held the electricity grid agreement on 28 February 2026 will receive the support. Further information, including examples of how the support is calculated, is available on the government’s website:

What do I need to do to receive payment?

Payment will automatically be made to your bank account registered with Swedbank’s account register. If you have not yet registered an account, you should do so no later than 25 May in order to receive payment before 19 June. Your electricity grid operator provides information about your electricity consumption, which we use to calculate the amount you are eligible for. No application is required.

If you do not have an account registered in Swedbank’s system, we will check whether you have a registered account with Försäkringskassan or the Swedish Pensions Agency (Pensionsmyndigheten), and make the payment to that account instead.

If no registered account can be found, a payment notice will be sent to you by mail. The notice can be redeemed online free of charge. If it is redeemed through an agent, a fee may apply.

When will I receive payment?

If we have received all required information from your electricity grid operator and your account is registered, you will receive payment before 19 June. Otherwise, the payment will be made in mid-August or later.

Will I be notified?

Yes, a decision notice will be sent either by post or to your digital mailbox. Please note that the notice may arrive before the payment is deposited into your account. If you have multiple electricity connections, you will receive one decision notice per connection.
