Compensation for costs from a personal injury

If you have costs for dental care, assistive devices, or medical care abroad due to a personal injury, you can receive compensation from Försäkringskassan. If you are a recruit, you can also receive compensation for medical care in Sweden.

Can I receive compensation for dental care costs?

Yes, if

  • you were injured while performing your military service according to the Total Defence Service Duty Act, you appear for enrolment or another form of drafting under this Act, you undergo military training as part of the Armed Forces as a recruit, or if you participate in rescue services
  • the injury has been approved as a personal injury by Försäkringskassan
  • the treatment is necessary due to the injury
  • the dentist is affiliated with Försäkringskassan
  • you have a receipt or treatment proposal from your dentist

How much do I get?

Försäkringskassan uses reference charges to calculate how much compensation you can receive for dental care. If your dentist charges a higher price than found in the reference charge list, you usually only receive compensation equal to the reference charge.

All reference charges are found in the reference charge list on the Dental and Pharmaceutical Benefits Agency's website.
