Costs for medical care refers to costs for a doctor's care, hospital care, physical therapy, and travel to and from a doctor or hospital.
Can I receive compensation for medical care abroad?
You can receive compensation for costs for medical care abroad if:
- you had or will have a cost for medical care abroad due to your injury and you paid more for the care than you would have in Sweden.
- you have a receipt or treatment proposal.
- you are insured in Sweden. If you work here, you are.
If you meet all of these conditions, Försäkringskassan will go forward and investigate whether your injury or illness can be approved as an occupational injury. If it is approved as an occupational injury, you can receive compensation for dental care costs.
How much money will I get?
If you incurred costs for medical care abroad, there will first be an assessment as to whether you are entitled to compensation for medical care abroad according to applicable rules, regardless of whether you have an occupational injury or not. If there are costs that are not compensated under the rules, we will investigate whether you can receive compensation for the costs from occupational injury insurance instead.
You will receive compensation for the entire remainder of the cost, but we will deduct what you would have paid if you received care in Sweden.
Your eligibility for compensation is highly dependent on your situation and what type of care you received.
