Can I receive occupational injury sickness benefit for qualifying days?

Everyone granted annuity or sickness benefit from occupational injury insurance receives compensation for two qualifying days. In certain cases, you can also apply for additional days of occupational injury sickness benefit for qualifying days. Such cases are if

• you can prove that you lost income for at least three qualifying days, for example with a pay slip that specifies your pay deduction.
• you have a medical document that shows that the qualifying days are due to your already approved occupational injury.
• you are insured in Sweden. You are insured in Sweden if you work here.

How much do I get?

You receive about 80 per cent of the income you are actually losing.

What is occupational injury sickness benefit for students?

If you are injured while studying or participating in a labour market programme, and your sickness benefit qualifying income is low or you do not have one, you can receive occupational injury sickness benefit beginning day 180 after you were injured. Occupational injury sickness benefit for students serves as a minimum guarantee benefit.

Can I receive occupational injury sickness benefit for students?

Yes, if

• you were injured while studying, participating in a labour market programme or some form of occupational rehabilitation.
• you are still sick 180 days after you were injured and you cannot or should not work at least 25 per cent.
• occupational sickness benefit is higher than standard sickness benefit.

If you meet all of these conditions, Försäkringskassan will go forward and investigate whether your injury or illness can be approved as an occupational injury. If it is approved as an occupational injury, you can receive occupational injury sickness compensation for students.

How much do I get?

If you cannot work at all, you receive at least

• SEK 190/day before tax if you are younger than age 21
• SEK 238/day before tax if you are over age 20 but younger than age 25
• SEK 285/day before tax if you are age 25 or older

How do I apply?

• what type of injury or illness you believe is an occupational injury and has caused you to be on sick leave for at least 180 days
• during which training or labour market programme you were injured and in which element.

In certain cases, you can receive occupational injury sickness benefit if you refrain from working because there is a legitimate risk that the work will make you sick.

Can I receive compensation?

You can receive occupational injury sickness benefit for preventive purposes if

• you completely or partly refrained from working at the request or with the consent of Försäkringskassan
• your employer cannot arrange any other work for you during that time
• your employer is not compensating you for the lost income
• measures are being carried out to enable you to return to your regular job and return to your regular income
• you are insured in Sweden. If you work here, you are.
