What is an advance decision?
An advance decision is a decision regarding how much money you can receive for the dental treatment and when you can receive it. You receive the decision before you leave for the trip. You then apply for compensation once you have received the treatment.
Can I receive an advance decision?
Yes, if
- you are insured for health care benefits in Sweden. (You are insured in Sweden
if you live or work here or if Sweden is the authorised Member State for you. There
are some exceptions to this rule.)
- the treatment you are planning would have been covered by the social insurance scheme if you had
received the care in Sweden
- the care must be provided by qualified healthcare personnel.
How much compensation can I receive if I have an advance decision?
You can never receive more in compensation than what the same care would have cost in Sweden or than what
you paid. This means that if the care is more expensive in the country in which care is provided than what it is in
Sweden, you pay the difference yourself.
What can I be compensated for if I have an advance decision?
You can receive compensation for dental care, medication and both private and public dental treatment in another EEA country.
Can I receive compensation for travel, food and lodging, travel expenses for a travelling companion or the patient fee?
No, you cannot receive compensation for travel, food and lodging, travel expenses for a travelling companion or the patient fee you incurred if you were granted an advance decision.
