If the family moves out of Sweden, it is important that the move is reported for all adults and children in the family. Similarly, it is important for all adults in the family to report if they begin working in a different country than before.
What happens after I have reported this?
Once you have reported it, we will investigate whether you will be insured in Sweden or in another country. Being insured in Sweden means that you can receive compensation from Försäkringskassan, and that you or your employer must pay social security contributions in Sweden.
Insured in Sweden
You are usually insured in the country where you work, and you can only be insured in a country within the EU/EEA or Switzerland. Bear in mind that the amount you receive in compensation and the amount of social security contributions you or your employer must pay can vary greatly between countries. Find out what applies in the country where you are insured.
If you are posted in another EU/EEA country or Switzerland by an employer in Sweden, you are usually ensured in Sweden. This means that you may be entitled to compensation from Försäkringskassan if, for example, you become ill.
When am I considered posted abroad?
You are considered posted abroad if all of the following apply to you:
- You perform your work on your employer’s behalf in another country for maximum two years, and your employer considers operating in Sweden during this time.
- You are not replacing another posted person at the workplace in the other country.
- You have been insured in Sweden for at least one month before being posted abroad.
If you are employed within the public sector in Sweden, there is no time limit for how long you can be posted abroad and still be insured in Sweden.
If we determine that you are insured in Sweden, we will send the A1 certificate to you. You must present the certificate in the country where you are working, so that the country knows that you are eligible to receive compensation from Försäkringskassan, and that your employer pays social security contributions in Sweden.
Do I have the right to receive medical care in the country where I work?
Yes, you have the right to receive medical care in the country where you work, provided that you have received a certificate for health and medical care from Försäkringskassan, and the country where you work has approved the certificate. The certificate is called the E106 certificate. You apply on My pages (Mina sidor).
