Work in multiple countries in the EU/EEA or Switzerland

Here, you can read about what applies if you move to several different EU/EEA countries or Switzerland.

 

If you live in Sweden and work in at least two different EU/EEA countries or Switzerland, you must report this to Försäkringskassan. We will then assess whether you fulfil the conditions to remain insured in Sweden. If you do, we will send you a certificate indicating that you are insured in Sweden and must pay social security fees here. The certificate you receive is called the A1 certificate.

You report that you work abroad and apply for the A1 certificate using the form.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, if you work in Sweden and are a legal guardian of a child in another member state, you may be entitled to child allowance from Sweden. If both parents work in different countries, they are entitled to child allowance from both countries. The country in which the child lives has primary responsibility for paying child allowance for the child. Contact the Customer Centre to learn what applies in your particular case.

Försäkringskassan needs

  • the social insurance numbers of you and your family members in the other country
  • address details in the other member state
  • a birth certificate if the child does not have a Swedish personal ID number
  • information on your employment in Sweden. Such information can be in the form of an employment contract and a current payslip.

Yes, your family can receive child allowance from Sweden. Contact the Customer Centre since we need to learn more about your family situation to be able to tell you what applies in your particular situation.
