Pregnancy benefit
Pregnancy benefit is money that you can get if you have a physically demanding job or there are risks in your working environment that mean that you cannot work when you are pregnant.
Am I eligible for pregnancy benefit?
You can get pregnancy benefit if you are pregnant and:
- cannot work because you have a physically demanding work or there are risks in your working environment. You must be away at least one-fourth of your regular working hours to be able to receive pregnancy benefit.
- cannot be transferred by your employer to an easier or less risky job. (Only applies to employees and not the self-employed.)
To receive pregnancy benefit, you must also:
- lose work income.
- be insured in Sweden. You usually are if you live or work here.
When can I get pregnancy benefit?
How much money will I get?
You receive approximately 80 per cent of your salary, but this is capped to SEK 754 per day.
How do I apply for pregnancy benefit?
1. Notify your employer
Notify your employer that you want to be moved to an easier or less risky job. If your employer can move you, you cannot receive pregnancy benefit. Tell your employer as soon as you know that you may have difficulty continuing to work due to your pregnancy.
2. Request a statement from your employer
If you cannot be moved, your employer must fill out a statement and send it in to Försäkringskassan.
