Försäkringskassan is obliged to apply European Parliament and Council regulations in certain benefits. Regulation 883/2004 indicates which benefits are deemed to be EU family benefits under Swedish law. One example of this is child allowance.

Nordic Convention on Social Security
The Nordic Convention on Social Security serves to supplement the EU Regulations. The Convention is a special agreement between the Nordic countries that in certain cases expands the rights of individuals who move within the Nordic region. The countries where the Convention is applies are Denmark, Finland, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
Bilateral agreements on rehabilitation within the Nordic region
Försäkringskassan has entered into bilateral agreements with Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Norway on the right to occupational rehabilitation. The agreements give individuals who work in one Nordic country and live in another the right to rehabilitation in their country of residence.
The Social Insurance Code
The Social Insurance Code (2010:110) is a coherent and comprehensive social security law that replaces some thirty previously existing social security statutes such as, for example, the laws on child allowance, housing allowance, national insurance and occupational injury insurance. This provides improved transparency and uniformity in terms of rules and terminology common to social security. The Social Insurance Code entered into force in January 2011.
